About

Made by

Phil Holland

Trumpet player and private trumpet instructor. Built practice cents for phone practice rooms — tuner, metronome, recorder, journal, and free HYKOM theory and ear training for grades 6–12.

Teaching

Phil taught private trumpet for 23 years in Plano, working with middle and high school students (mostly Plano ISD). Many made All-Region and All-State — including first chair All-State in Texas. Others earned music scholarships to places including Juilliard, Eastman, NEC, Northwestern, USC, and Baylor. Students attended Tanglewood. Many held principal chair in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO).

That studio experience is why HYKOM is free, contest-type skills with original drills, assign links for teachers, and progress that can stay on the student’s phone.

Now

He moved on to teach at scale in post-training leadership in Human Data at SpaceXAI. practice cents is still the same idea as the studio: short sessions, a clear target, and tools that stay out of the way.

practice cents

One app for the jobs that show up every week: tune, keep a click, record a take, log a session, and run short theory or ear drills. No account required for core practice.
